Vertex® & LeaseTeam: How it Works

LeaseTeam's Vertex® Sales Tax Returns Q Series™ integration can be used by Vertex and non-Vertex users. If you are licensed for Vertex, the interface produces an export file keyed by GEO code that contains the sales tax information from LeaseTeam's back-end system necessary for the Sales Tax Returns Q Series to produce your sales/use tax returns.

If you are not licensed for Vertex, the interface produces an export file keyed by address information to be used with Vertex's Flexi-Import, in which the Sales Tax Returns Q Series module matches address information to reporting jurisdictions, allowing you to automate your return preparation process without subscribing to the Vertex rate service.

Vertex Interface

The Vertex Interface used with LeasePlus contains two components, the Vertex Calculation Module and the Vertex GEO Coder. These two program sets are developed by Vertex. LeaseTeam has embedded this code into LeasePlus and its associated modules. LeaseTeam distributes the Vertex program files along with the LeasePlus program files. Vertex distributes the data file updates for both the rate update used by the calculation module and the GEO Code update used by the GEO Coder. The Vertex calculation module and the GEO Coder are considered separate products by Vertex and the data for each is distributed separately. The two products are also licensed separately by Vertex. The calculation module will calculate the sales tax associated with each charge in LeasePlus.

The GEO Coder will automatically retrieve the GEO Codes associated with the city, state and ZIP code address fields on the customer and customer location records during maintenance of these records. The Vertex program files are embedded in LeasePlus providing a seamless interface between the two products. LeasePlus passes parameter information to both the calculation module and the GEO Coder programs. The information is processed within the calculation module or the GEO Coder then is passed back to LeasePlus for use in calculating sales tax charge amounts or for automatic retrieval of GEO Codes during maintenance functions.

The GEO Code fields store the tax codes and are used instead of the standard Sales Tax Code fields in LeasePlus. The GEO Coder is available to aid in the process of retrieval of the GEO Code values. As charges are processed in LeasePlus, the same LeasePlus data files are affected using the Vertex Interface as are affected using standard LeasePlus.

LeaseTeam provides the program files for both the Vertex calculation
Module and the GEO Coder. However, it is necessary to contact Vertex
for the license and data files for these options.
